Welcome to North Idaho Skull Cleaning
This business started the same way most good things do. Not with a plan, but with time spent outside.
My wife and I built North Idaho Skull Cleaning around the lifestyle we already live. We hunt. We fish. We hike. We camp. We ride. We spend long days in the woods and long nights thinking about what those days mean. The skull cleaning side of the business grew out of respect for the animals we harvest and the belief that nothing taken from the field should be wasted or treated carelessly.
We are not professional writers and we are not influencers. We are people who have spent years learning through cold mornings, blown stalks, long pack outs, quiet sits, and hard lessons. What we share here comes from experience, not theory.
Our qualifications are simple. We spend time outside in all seasons. We handle our animals from field to freezer. We care deeply about doing things the right way, even when no one is watching. We believe that hunting and other outdoor pursuits come with responsibilities as well as privileges.
This business exists because we value craftsmanship, patience, and respect for the resource. Those same values show up in how we clean skulls, how we process animals, and how we move through the outdoors.
What This Blog Is
This blog is an extension of that mindset.
It is not a place for hot takes or arguments. It is a place for shared experience. Some weeks will be practical. Some weeks will be reflective. Some weeks will simply ask you to slow down and notice what is around you.
Each month follows a simple rhythm.
One week each month is reserved for Field Notes. These are longer pieces written from the moments of waiting that happen so often outdoors. Waiting for light. Waiting for weather. Waiting for movement. These posts explore ethics, tradition, stewardship, family, mental health, and the deeper reasons many of us keep going back outside.
One week focuses on gear. The Gear Shed is where we talk honestly about the tools and equipment we use. Sometimes it is a single item. Sometimes it is a full setup for a specific trip. The goal is usefulness, not hype.
Another week is dedicated to Outdoor Ingenuity. These are quick tips and tricks learned over time that make life outside a little easier. Nothing complicated. Nothing fancy. Just things that work for us and might work for you too.
The final week is Pause and Notice. These are short observations from time in the field. A sound. A sight. A moment that made us stop. They are meant to encourage awareness and curiosity more than instruction.
Why We Are Writing This
We believe the outdoors is one of the few places left where people can slow down, think clearly, and reconnect with something real. We also believe that how we act in these spaces matters.
If something we share helps you pack a little lighter, think a little deeper, or notice something you would have otherwise missed, then this blog has done its job.
Thanks for checking in and we will see you out there.
